Preference of flavours in alginate impression materials among dentists

ABSTRACT
Aim:
To learn about the different flavours of alginate preferred by dentists.
Introduction:
Alginate is an elastic, irreversible hydrocolloid impression material. Irreversible hydrocolloid impressions form an inseparable part of impression material. Alginate is one among the foremost used dental materials and it is a simple, cost-effective, and indispensable part of dental practice.
Materials and methods:
A questionnaire was prepared. The survey was conducted among the dentists of Saveetha Dental College, Chennai, India, and the data was collected and analyzed.
Results:
According to the survey 65% of the dentists would prefer flavored alginate over flavourless alginates and would choose flavors according to the gender of the child.
Conclusion:
The flavor component would have dual benefit in enhancing consumer acceptance as well as therapeutically reducing and/or preventing dental caries incidences. Keywords: Alginate, flavors, therapeutic material, cognition.
